Gerugambakkam
Sri Neelakanteswarar Temple Rejuvenation project on 13th September,
2009.
Members
of Loka Dharma Seva Foundation Trust [ Regd] - [LDSFT], organized
a Temple Rejuvenation project of Temple cleaning work of Sri
Kamatchi Amman Udanurai Sri. Neelakanteswarar - Kethu sannadhi
Temple, at Gerugambakkam, 5 km from Porur Jn, in the out skirts
of Chennai on Sunday 13th September, 2009.
21
volunteers of LDSFT with 10 youth members of the village participated.
The Temple moolavar and amman areas along with few deities
were cleaned by smearing with sour-curd preparation and cleaned
the oily coatings. Floor was cleaned with detergents. All
temple Vessels, Lamps and Silver decorative items were cleaned
with detergents, Tamarind and polished with Pitambari.
The area out side the temple is full of weeds and plants,
half of them removed. It is planned another visit by Gents
to clear the plants around the temple. Gents team led by Shri.
Srinivasan of Ayyapan Thangal and Sri. Sastry of Broadway
fixed Sunday 11th October 7 AM to visit Gerugambakkam to clear
the surroundings. A good job was done on cleaning the temple.
Observations :
1. The temple 100s of years old but no Gopuram, Kumbabishekam
not done from inception. Hence there was an urgent need for
Rejuneation.
2. The Temple has no compound wall, an urgent need of a wall
around.
3. There exists a Temple Tank behind the temple with steps
but no water. The banks of tank is being illegally encroached
by public with houses, huts etc. Hence a need to vacate and
renovate the tank.
4. Even though the temple is under Dept. HRCE , no salary
for the newly appointed Gurukkal, no other staff posted.
5. There is no mandapam for the Temple.
6. Maintaince of daily rituals , lighting temple lamps are
essential.
LDSFT along with Govt. Officials and Local people with other
organizations should put efforts in rejuvenating the temple
on above observations. It is proposed to meet at temple at
10 AM on Sunday 11 th October. Please be with us for a noble
cause.
