Report on Uzhavarappani - at Nungambakkam
72nd Temple Cleaning on 20th November 2011
With the blessings of Lord Muruga, members and Volunteer Devotees of LDSFT carried out the 72nd Temple Cleaning at Sri Sivasubramanya Swamy Temple, Rama Street, Nungambakkam on 20th November 2011. The Main Deity is Valli Devasena Sametha Subramanyaswamy with parivara moorthis of Idumban, Dhandayuthapani, Durgai along the sides of the main deity. The other sannathi is Vinayagar sannathi. Hari Gurukkal gave a brief note on temple and about himself at the beginning to all members. A total of 42 members, 24 ladies and 18 gents - participated in the events starting around 10am.

Some of the cleaning activities carried out include: Cleaning of Silver Kavacham of Lord Subramanya,Valli Deivanai,Durgai along with backdrop arch. The cleaning included initial washing with Soap Oil, removal of dark particles with metal scrubber and then drying. Post drying they applied 'Silvo' for additional shine & brightness, Cleaning of Pooja articles with cleaning powder. The Urchava Moorthies of Lord Subramanya, Valli Deivanai along with the table were cleaned well. The vigrahas of Moorthies were cleaned with soap oil and then dried post for which Pitambari was used for additional brightness. Cleaning of Main deities (Lord Subramanya,Valli, Deivayani) were carried out by Hari Gurukkal and his brother. Cleaning of Parivara devathas along with vinayagar sannathi were carried out with removal of dust through water sprinkling and washing deities with scouring powder.

The Gopuram portions of Main garpagraha outside were cleaned of dust using broom and water wash. The entire temple area was washed with water. The Lawn area with marshy grass were cleared and planted with Badam Saplings. Two large wooden cabinets were moved inside as needed by Hari Gurukkal. 108 Lamps were lit by ladies at 12.00 Noon. Tea was served at 11.30am and was arranged by Hari Gurukkal (9884359459). Lunch was sponsored by Mr. Venkatasubramaniam (98 4155 3040) through Hari Gurukkal & was served at 12.45pm. All these events were covered by 'Arcot Talk' Photographer for article to be published in the current edition.

Our planned next monthly Uzhavarappani will be our 73rd Temple cleaning
scheduled on 18th December 2011, from 10AM to 1 PM.,

LDSFT is organising uzhavara pani [Temple Cleaning] on second Sundays of every month.
LDSFT is engaged on several other activities of temples like 108 thiruvilakku pujas, anmiga tours,
Integrated community development, Organisational networking, interacting like minded organizations,
establishing devotees forums, conducting lectures on Hindu dharma, general education,
training volunteers on spiritual healings at hospitals and forming youth forums. Volunteers and sponsors are needed.
