of Ideas and Analysis of Problems- - 13 | |
| | Many
orthodox Hindus are quick to identify themselves with the Western view of the
Divine and their messengers by reciting "Ekam sat ……" and so on to say
that all concepts of God is one and the same and that Hindus have great tolerance.
But, just wait one minute, we do not see the same tolerance among the various
subdivisions of our own faith like Saivam and Vaishnavam and they fight all the
time. Even some of our Gurus and leaders who accept outside faiths and enter their
places of worship show discrimination inside our faith. We see many Vaishnavite
and Saivite scholars, pundits and leaders who are refusing to enter each others
Temples. Why do not we show the same sense of tolerance and understanding within
our various groups? Now we see the same enmity within our community, against various
castes. The "low caste" Hindus become more acceptable to our religious
pundits if they get converted to another religion. It is a sad but real fact causing
all our problems. We need to reeducate the attitude of our people to develop more
tolerance and acceptance within our own groups. Same way, we need to give the
same privileges to our women, and also not to discriminate the unfortunate ones
who are widowed. We need to educate our people about the simple rules of equal
privileges and equal rights to practice all aspects of our Hindu Dharma according
to one's choice.
| |
| | When
we analyze the situation in our community, we all see and face several aspects
of the problem that need solutions. The public support has to be developed and
improved. The public knowledge on Hindu Dharma needs to be increased. Differences
and discrimination between various communities need to be resolved. Essentially,
equal rights and equal privileges for various traditions and rituals among various
communities and Jaathis need to be implemented. Both men and women, especially
the widowed women should get this equal privilege. The various studies and traditions
should be based on ones desire and interest rather than accidents of birth. If
need be, the procedures can be offered to those who desire to study in addition
to those who claim those rights by birth. Every one should get equal rights and
privileges. Every one who has the guna and qualification should become a dwija
with the privileges to study the Vedic texts and practice all aspects of the Dharma.
This may look too revolutionary to some. But, if we want the tides of conversions
and problems with in this society to be solved and if we want to renovate all
the Temples, and in fact Hindu Dharma itself, we need this revolution if that
is what it takes.
| |
| | We
cannot solve all the problems here and it will cost lots of money and lot more
effort than what we may foresee. Given the situation, if some one tries to work
for them, the people will keep quiet and expect us to bear all the expenses. There
will always be people who will misuse the funds for their personal agenda. We
need to prepare ourselves for all these. We need to keep ourselves abreast of
the situation we will be facing as we enter into our field of work. We need to
keep away from political parties. We need to concentrate only on arranging a central
organization for the work - the main field of our activity should only focus on
the four subjects we are planning. : 1. Temple renovation by forming
the village/ Temple boards and the councils will improve the looks and facilities
of Hindu Temples for service to the entire community in all villages, small towns
and cities; 2. A welfare Program for the Priests, Preachers and Teachers
- as their welfare is very important to lift up and uphold the status of the Hindu
faith itself; 3. Educational programs - both the basic for the public
and advanced for priests and preachers- to sustain and maintain these temples
will encourage more public, young and old members of the Hindu community, to attend
to the services; 4. A Research wing to encourage advanced studies and
original research in the Vedas, Agamas and various language texts and to translate
them for the public use will create many good teachers of Hindu Dharma; - and,
5. A Headquarters organization to combine and supervise all the above three,
audit and keep a powerful chain of command will maintain significant power and
create credibility.
| |
| | The
Temple and school project should be mostly funded by local effort and we should
organize only to collect these funds and audit and certify the accounts and make
sure that the budgeting and approving authority for the expenses is separate from
those who sign and approve the payments, to assure that there is no misuse. We
need to do the checks and balances.
