| With the origin of the world the first man made his appearance. With the advent of man, the first religion came into being. That religion is the one called Hinduism today. The basis of Hindu religion is the Vedas. This religion accepts the all pervading Omnipresent, who has incarnated in different forms in order to shower His blessings on man thus paving his way to reach Him easily. Hinduism accepts the worship of Fire god [Agni]. It also tells us that pleasure or pain is the result of one's own action - Karma [good or bad]. Acceptance of rebirth is also one of the tenets of Hinduism. The ways and means of experience in other parts of the world are also explored in Vedangas. Regard and respect for one's mother, father, preceptor and cow is enjoined in this religion. Once Hinduism was practiced all over the world. Even now Hindus and their culture exist in every part of the world, in spite of many trials and tribulations. Hinduism has survived many onslaughts. It will stay as long as the existence of the world. The date of origin of the religion can not be fixed. Once there is no beginning there can not be an end. Dr. Bala N. Aiyer, in his book "Principles and Practice of Hindu Religion" has brought forth under different headings, the antiquity, glory and culture of Hinduism in such a way that even a layman can understand. His Holiness is very much pleased with this kind of work. It is the wish of His Holiness that this book be a guide and gateway for understanding the elements of Hinduism. |
