In every village and in every city,
all over the Indian subcontinent one sees a highly complex and ancient civilization
at work. Wherever their people went and settled, wherever there was a group of
families following some form of the great traditions that originated in this ancient
land, one can see the traditions of this great faith called Hinduism at work.
A unique architecture, fine crafts, beautiful art, painting, music and dance,
complicated systems of social organization and family traditions, inspiring religious
faith and practice of rituals - - all these are seen as part of daily life for
the Hindus. Today's Hindus, wherever they may live, can freely draw upon their
deeply rooted heritage as they shape new institutions to meet the future. A thousand
years of subjugation by alien faiths with the destruction of the social structures,
until Independence in 1947, while it caused many miseries and problems, at least
has lead to a new awakening for a renewed and united form of the faith, cementing
all the recent past differences and in-group fighting among the various segments
of the Hindu community. Hindus living all over the world today share hope and
love with one another and an ambition to create a successful, complete and satisfying
life for themselves and for their children. This book is dedicated to all of them
to strengthen their faith and knowledge of this great philosophy and culture.
