Part 2- 09
Tamasika Bhakthi to God as Prayers to Ishta Devatha
Now God of Anger becomes a God of Devotion and Prayers

Tamasika Bhakthi of Devotion is good enough for most of us

The Tamasika Bhakthi develops with a spiritual understanding of the True nature of the Divine forces as a Reality and the real need for prayers and the effects of such prayers. This form of basic understanding of the Spiritual Dimension and the prayers and rituals at the Tamasika level was good enough for most Hindus. There is nothing wrong with this level of Bhakthi, to follow the faith of Hindu Dharma and is an improvement over the blind fear of an unseen God of Anger. Blind Devotion and Lack of Understanding often leads to a question.

Is there any Angry God who will give any punishments and rewards based on our devotion and prayers? How do our actions in daily living affect us in our lives now and in future? The devotees now study and try to understand the teaching of great religious leaders and offer regular prayers as their regular duty. They start believing in the Karma and the effects of such actions which causes the effects. The prayers help them from such effects of their Karma. Now they also believe in Dharma, that Divine rules for daily living. The prayers and rituals then becomes a natural part of their daily living, not just for their fear and benefits.

Most Hindus in the modern day with limited knowledge of the Holy texts of Vedas, Agamas and other teachings, often follow the message as given in Ithihasas and Puranas. They all believe in prayer services to various forms and manifestations of Paramatma in Home and Temple prayers and in fire rituals to natural forces on a regular basis. As they study, they develop a desire to know more and get an understanding of the True nature of the Supreme Spirit who is out there somewhere is also inside each one of us. They realize the truth of the Paramatma and Jeevathma. They realize that the icons that they pray to are only a medium for their concentration towards the great Superior force that guides everything in the universe as it creator. Still they believe in the need for rituals and prayers to condition our thoughts and vibrations in us.

All prayers, recitations and meditation help us condition our mind and our life, There is a need for such prayers and rituals. Here they go to several Temples and worship the icons or moorthies of several manifestations of Paramtma as their regular scheduled daily, monthly or annual activity expected of them. They perform regular visits to various temples for various Moorthies. They learn and keep one form of worship and one form of manifestation as their primary aim in prayers. This is the basis of Hindu teachings on Ishta Deavatha and Adhikara. This is still in Tamasika level of Prayers slowly evolving themselves to the next dimension of understanding of the Divine Supreme truth in the Rajasika level.
