Understanding the Agama Rituals in Temple Services

In Temple construction and installation of Deities, the rules of Agama texts are followed. The Moorthy is set on a platform where the soil is dug about 9 feet into the ground, and constructed. At the base, crystalline gem stones like diamonds, ruby and emeralds along with gold are placed. A copper plate of Chakra or Yanthra for the Deity is placed before installing the Vigraha of the Moorthy on top. Above the sanctum is the tall gopuram with a copper kalasam which has a sharp conical end on top. Now, remember, ruby crystals are used in laser beams and copper is the best conductor for electricity as in modern science.

The electromagnetic powers in the earth get concentrated at the site and passes through the crystals to create a force field like a vertical laser beam that passes through the copper plate of the Chakra where the force fields from the space and sky attracted through the copper kalasam comes down to meet. What we get as a result is the holographic power image of the Deity being installed. The Vigraha is there to help us visualize the image of force field with all the powers. The Guru or Priest who has developed all the force-field by his Atmapooja is able to touch and do the services for the Moorthy without disturbing Its powers. Any other person doing this will earth the powers and vibrations. Daily prayers with recitation of Veda Manthras increase the powers of the installed Deity and the surrounding.

Since ancient times, in Hindu kingdoms, in each village, a Kali Temple is established at the border of the city to ward off the evil forces from entering the area. The main Temple for Iswara, Sakthi or Vishu or for all is established close to the center of the city. The king allotted the houses around the Temple to the priests of the Temple. They recite the Veda manthras every day around the Temple and in the Temple around the Deities, to increase the powers of the installed Moorthy for the prosperity of the whole village or city and all the dwellers.

So, it becomes very important that in a properly consecrated Temple, the Deity gets its Divine powers, as a powerhouse, by regular and proper rituals, recitation of Veda manthras and pooja services. These must be performed on a regular schedule; even when no one else comes to the Temple due to bad weather or any other reason, to maintain its special powers and glory. Temple following Agama rules should follow this routine. Persons performing the services or even touching the Moorthy to decorate or offer prasadams, should regularly follow certain Niyamas and do meditation and manthra pooja regularly, or even better, should receive manthropadesam and Samaya Deekshai or Sri Viddhyai from a Guru. Home sanctums and some Temples following the Sasthra traditions, where the powers of the Deity are installed each time by sankalpa, have more relaxed rules in performing all these rituals.
